How a Tokyo Photoshoot Works
Pick the shoot and the area, book the light you want, and send the photographer your references.
Pick the Shoot
A 45-minute street session, a custom one-to-three-hour walk, or a kimono shoot in Asakusa. Shoots are priced per person or per group, so check what the price covers: the Cinematic Street Photoshoot is one price for up to two.
Choose the Area
Shibuya and Shinjuku for neon and crowds, Sangenjaya for backstreets and the Setagaya Line tram, Asakusa for Senso-ji and old Tokyo. Most photographers send a questionnaire or plan the route with you before the day.
Book the Light
Early morning means empty streets in Asakusa; after dark is when the neon in Shibuya and Shinjuku comes on. The calendar shows the start times for each date, and the best time guide covers sakura and the seasons.
Get Your Gallery
Your photographer directs the poses and catches the moments in between. The edited photos arrive in an online gallery, within 3 to 14 days depending on the shoot.

The Guide
Booking a Photographer in Tokyo: Which Shoot, Which Area, What You Get
A short street session, a custom walk across the city, or a kimono shoot in Asakusa. Here is how the Tokyo shoots differ, and which one fits your trip.
A Tokyo photoshoot is an hour or so with a local photographer who knows which side street is quiet, when the neon comes on and how to get you to relax in front of a camera. The one this page puts first is the Private Cinematic Street Photoshoot: a female-led creative team walks one or two of you through Shibuya, Shinjuku or Sangenjaya for 45 or 75 minutes, using the neon, storefronts, reflections and everyday street life as the set, and sends 80 to 150 colour-edited photos to an online gallery within 7 days. It costs from US$235 for up to two (checked October 2026) and is rated 5.0 out of 5 from 88 reviews, ten of them in the last two months.

The direction is the part reviewers mention. One couple booked it to mark the end of their holiday and were taken through Shibuya by photographers they called energetic; another arrived exhausted on their last day and said it became the best part of it. The team works in English, Japanese and Chinese, the longer session adds 20 fully retouched images to the 120 to 150 edited ones, and a cinematic video clip of about a minute is an extra.

A street shoot, a custom walk, or a kimono shoot?
Tokyo shoots fall into three kinds. A street session is 45 minutes to an hour in one area, usually Shibuya or Shinjuku, and gives you a big set fast. A custom walk runs one to three hours across places you choose with the photographer. A kimono shoot starts at a rental shop in Asakusa and ends at Senso-ji. Which is best depends on whether you want the city at night, a story of the day, or one very Japanese set.
Book whichever fits your trip:

What you get back
The number of photos, and how fast they arrive, is where Tokyo shoots differ most:
| Shoot | From | Edited photos | Delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cinematic Street Photoshoot | US$235 for up to 2 | 80 to 150, plus 15 to 20 retouched | Within 7 days |
| Private Vacation Photographer | US$281 for up to 8 | By package | Within 5 working days |
| Cinematic Portrait Photo Shoot | US$249 for up to 7 | Edited set, full-resolution downloads | Within 14 days |
| Neon Night or Daylight Photo Tour | US$96 per person | 70 to 150 | Online gallery |
| Tokyo Neon Photo Session | US$159 per person | 70+, plus 5 art edits | Google Photos folder for a month |
| 1-Hour Private Photoshoot | US$128 for one | 100 to 150 originals, 10 edited | Digital |
| Private Photo Shoot in Asakusa, Shinjuku or Shibuya | US$145 for up to 4 | 25 to 50 by length, plus all unedited | Within a week |
| Asakusa Kimono Photoshoot | US$134 per person | 35+ | Generally within 3 days |
Raw files are not standard on most of them, though the 1-hour shoot and the Asakusa shoot by a Japanese photographer give you every original. The neon session is the odd one out on delivery: its photos sit in a Google Photos folder for one month, so download them in time.
The areas, and a page for each

Shibuya and Shinjuku are where most street and night shoots happen: the scramble crossing, the neon, the arcades and the narrow bar alleys. The Shibuya photoshoot page compares the shoots there and when the crossing works.
Asakusa is old Tokyo: Senso-ji’s Kaminarimon gate, Nakamise-dori and the five-storey pagoda, and the place to wear a kimono. The kimono photoshoot page has the shoots that include the rental.
Couples, honeymoons and proposals have their own page: the couples photoshoot page covers cinematic sessions for two and the planned proposal shoots. The best places guide covers Tokyo Tower, Yoyogi Park, the Imperial Palace and the rest.
What a Tokyo photoshoot costs
From about US$57 a person for a short session to US$235 or more for a private street shoot for two, and US$281 for a custom walk for a group, as listed on GetYourGuide in October 2026. Per-group prices often work out cheaper for two or more. The cost guide lays out what each price buys.
Before you book
- Time of day. Early morning gives you an empty Asakusa; the neon in Shibuya and Shinjuku needs dark, from about 5 pm in winter. The best time guide covers sakura and the seasons.
- Where you can shoot. Streets and most parks are fine. Meiji Jingu and Shinjuku Gyoen restrict professional shoots, and Senso-ji asks visitors not to photograph inside the main hall. The rules guide has the details.
- What to wear. Solid colours and something you can walk in; a kimono in Asakusa. The what to wear guide has more.
- Is it worth it? If you travel alone or always end up behind the camera, almost certainly. The worth it guide weighs it up.

Tokyo Photoshoot FAQ
The questions people ask before booking a photographer in Tokyo, answered in the first sentence.
From about US$57 a person for a short session to US$235 for a private 45-minute street shoot for two, on GetYourGuide in October 2026. Most well-reviewed shoots cost US$96 to US$281, and several are priced per group, which makes them cheaper per head for couples and families. The cost guide compares what each price buys.
In Tokyo, about US$100 to US$300 for one or two hours with a vacation photographer, as listed on GetYourGuide in October 2026. The neon night or daylight photo tour starts at US$96 a person and the Cinematic Street Photoshoot at US$235 for up to two. Wedding-day coverage is a different market: the wedding photoshoot with hair and makeup starts at US$2,028 for up to three.
Shibuya and Shinjuku for neon and crowds, Asakusa for Senso-ji and old Tokyo, and a backstreet area such as Sangenjaya for a quieter, local look. Shibuya Crossing is the most asked-for shot. The best places guide goes through each, and the rules guide covers the shrines and gardens that restrict professional shoots.
Between 30 minutes and three hours. The Cinematic Street Photoshoot runs 45 or 75 minutes, a one-hour private shoot stays at one spot of your choice, and a custom vacation photographer walk runs one to three hours across several places.
Yes, if you want to be in your own travel photos. A photographer who knows Tokyo knows which side streets are quiet, when the neon comes on and how to get you to relax. Reviewers who booked on their last day call it the best part of the trip. The worth it guide weighs it up.
Not a professional one without permission. Meiji Jingu does not allow promotional or professional photo sessions without permission, and Shinjuku Gyoen does not allow commercial photography and restricts tripods and reflectors in cherry blossom season. Ask your photographer where they plan to shoot; the rules guide has the details.
Early morning for empty streets in Asakusa, after dark for the neon in Shibuya and Shinjuku, and late March for cherry blossom. The Cinematic Portrait Photo Shoot offers seasonal sakura locations. The best time guide goes month by month.
Solid colours, something you can walk in, and one layer you like being photographed in. Neon and night shoots suit darker, simple clothes; Asakusa suits a kimono, which shops such as the one on the Asakusa guided kimono photoshoot fit you for. The what to wear guide has more.
Within 3 to 14 days on most Tokyo shoots. The Cinematic Street Photoshoot delivers within 7 days, the Asakusa kimono photoshoot generally within 3, the vacation photographer within 5 working days, and the cinematic portrait session within 14.
Yes: most have free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The 1-hour private photoshoot is an exception, with free cancellation up to 2 days before. Check the listing for the shoot you pick.
